West Memphis, Arkansas, rapper YTB Fatt has been on a run lately. His two high-energy joint singles with New Orleans’ Rob49 (“Bet I Whip It” and “Shake Sum”) will put you to work at the gym. His Famous Animal TV freestyle is mesmerizing (partially because of a frantic background dancer), and he outshined his mentor Moneybagg Yo on “Shot Off Gumbo.” Now, he’s got a debut mixtape, Who Is Fatt, under his belt, and it’s solid. Of the 15 tracks, “Poppin It Hard” caught my ear. It’s pretty simple: a colossal, hard-hitting beat and punchlines that range from threatening to OMG I can’t believe my life is this great right now. The best is when he says, “Fatt fox’ll make this shit look good with Aeropostale.” It’s nothing that distinct, but sometimes a rapper just gets into a zone where their every word sounds cool as hell.
