Don’t be fooled by Kalan.frfr. Just because he often uses his warm R&B melody over lush piano keys doesn’t mean he’s making bright-eyed love songs. On “Beautiful Story,” Kalan.frfr reveals that at his core he’s a disrespectful L.A. rapper: he refuses to put his blunt out while shopping at a high-end clothing store and he eats dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse while sipping lean from a styrofoam cup. Despite his old habits, the song is about how far he’s come since his 2018 breakout mixtape Twofr. “Just sent my mama overseas it felt amazing,” he croons with the same tone he uses to sing about his newfound love for filming sex tapes. When you’re talking about L.A.’s new wave of shit-talking, designer-obsessed rappers, Kalan.frfr should be included. He just happens to sing.
